Choosing a werename

On every message board in the "were community" it is customary to take a pseudonym that somehow describes you and use it when you post, reply, and chat. It's just one of those things that make everything better, for a couple of reasons.

First, many shifters don't want their real name to show up on search engines and such in connection to the idea of therianthropy. Second, many shifters hate their real names, and they want something that really connects them to their animal, or to something about them.

The problem is that many newbies to the community are so anxious to post, to jump in, to get working on the problem of their own possible therianthropy, they take the first name that pops into their head and post with it. Unfortunately, a lot of these names are very similar and it generally doesn't fit the person at all.

It is thus worthwile to spend time and make efforts to pick up the right name that match your wereside and your very personality. You won’t be able to change it at least if you want to make a name for yourself in the community. Remember also that the internet is still a text-based environment, and the first people see is your name.

So when picking a name, the most important thing is probably to make sure it's not something like "LightningKiller", “WhiteWolf” or the like. Other things to remember include: not all were names need include the animal, and especially don't come up with something that involves a color and then the name.

So get some paper and start playing with words, write down adjectives, names, sounds, and ideas. Stay away from well-known characters in books, especially if they are werewolf or vampire hunter books.  Then go and lurk on the forum, perhaps, but put the paper down and wait until the next day. Try to meditate before your sleep and let your animal side make the choice during the nighttime.
